How the Route Planner Works

PetrolPal's route planner calculates the most fuel-efficient journey between any two locations in the UK. Enter your start and destination, and we'll find the cheapest fuel stations along your route — not just nearby, but actually on your way.

Automatic Fuel Stop Calculation

Tell us your vehicle's details — tank size, current fuel level, and MPG — and the planner automatically determines where you'll need to stop for fuel. It searches a corridor along your route (adjustable from 1 to 5 miles wide) and suggests the cheapest stations at the points where your tank would run low.

Each suggested stop shows the exact price per litre, the distance along your route, and how far off the main road you'd need to divert. You can toggle stops on or off and the route recalculates in real time.

EV Route Planning

Switch to EV mode to plan journeys with charging stops. Enter your battery capacity, current charge level, and efficiency (miles per kWh), and the planner will identify charging stations along your route where you'll need to top up.

Export to Google Maps or Apple Maps

Once you've planned your route and chosen your fuel stops, export the entire journey — including all waypoints — to Google Maps or Apple Maps for turn-by-turn navigation. Your selected fuel stops are included as intermediate waypoints so your sat-nav routes you directly to each one.
